SALT LAKE CITY — Police say a man who appeared to be under the influence of "some sort of intoxicants" attacked random passengers and officers at the Salt Lake City International Airport Sunday.
Scott Hollis, 28, approached a random 20-year-old man in the lower level of the airport's arrivals terminal just after 5 p.m. and punched him in the face before choking a 17-year-old, according to Salt Lake police.
"It appears the individual had no legitimate business at the airport. He may have arrived via public transportation," a police spokesperson said.
Two Salt Lake police officers were at the airport working an unrelated case when they heard yelling on the floor below and looked over the railing to see "several people physically fighting." Officers told Hollis to stop several times and tried to arrest him when he "immediately grabbed" for one officer's handgun, according to a police booking affidavit.
When the man was on the ground, the arresting officer said Hollis "grabbed onto my Taser and was able to release it from the holster," the affidavit states.
The Taser did not activate, and the injuries to the officer and the victims were minor, police said. Hollis is "not from the area" and told officers "several times on the way to jail that if he gets out he will hurt lots of people," the arrest report says.
Hollis was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault, two counts of disarming a police officer, assault and interfering with an arresting officer.
