QUEENSLAND, Australia — It is a confrontation one snake will never forget.
An 8-foot python was stealthy, making its way through a backyard in Australia, when it encountered a potential meal: a guinea pig.
Surely, the python probably thought this was a lucky day. Guinea pigs, after all, are not known for defense or offense.
Even better, this one-sided showdown was going down under a bush against a fence. It wasn't likely that this mortal melee involving a large python and a small guinea pig was going to catch anyone's attention.
It did.
Entering the potentially deadly scene was a 12-year-old girl who fortuitously looked into the shrub and saw what seemed inevitable: the tragic loss of a family pet.
Demonstrating true Australian mettle and courage of spirit, the girl did what maybe only a few would do.
She picked up the python.
And then she spun it around, acting without mercy or hesitation.
The python, as large as it was, stood no chance when it came between a girl and her pet.
The girl screamed throughout the whole ordeal, her father said, according to ABC7.
The guinea pig lived, and the python did, too, but not without a crazy story to tell its python friends when it goes back down under into its hole. After this embarrassment, the python might stay home and pout for weeks.
