The 6-foot-1, 180-pound dual-threat signal caller initially committed to UTSA in June 2023, but reopened his recruitment during a run of visits that included BYU, Indiana, Tulsa, Tulane and Arkansas State, among others. He committed to the Cougars on Aug. 13, 2023.
Lugo, who threw for 1,612 yards and 16 touchdowns while running for 962 yards and 14 scores as a junior, also ran track in high school. He was a Texas 5A regional qualifier as a junior in the 300-meter hurdles, posting times of 39.42, 39.44 and 39.56, in addition to times of 23.64 in the 200 and 53.03 in the 400.

- As a junior, threw for 1,269 yards and 14 touchdowns while running for 800 yards and 13 touchdowns
