FRUITLAND, Duchesne County — A two-car crash on U.S. 40 near Fruitland resulted in two deaths Friday afternoon, according to Utah Highway Patrol.
About 4:30 p.m., a Dodge pickup truck heading east on U.S. 40 allegedly lost control, crossing into westbound lanes, Utah Highway Patrol trooper Luis Silva said. A Honda Accord traveling west then crashed into the truck.
Poul Larsen, 37, who was driving the pickup truck, and Kelsie Remington, 21, a passenger in the Accord, both died, Silva said. The driver of the Accord, a 21-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. His identity has not been released. He remained hospitalized Sunday but was stable, according to UHP.
At the time of the crash, U.S. 40 was closed in both directions, eventually opening up to one lane for alternating traffic while the scene was investigated and cleaned up. All lanes have since reopened.
