BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful police have identified a 20-year-old man shot and killed Friday morning.
Bountiful Police Lt. Andrew Smith said a suspect is in custody and cooperating with the investigation.
Police responded to a report of a gunshot wound on Millcreek Way in Bountiful about 11:20 a.m., where emergency responders began treating the victim before he died. The victim was identified as Jacob Hess, of North Salt Lake.
The suspect, identified as Dylan Goodin, 21, of Bountiful, was taken to the hospital for a hand injury before being released into police custody, Smith said. The suspect and victim were friends in high school, he said.
Goodin was released from the hospital and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. Investigators said they learned that three men in their 20s had been handling a gun when it went off.
Police obtained a search warrant for the residence, where they say they found drugs, alcohol and drug paraphernalia, in addition to the firearm used in the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
