SALT LAKE CITY — As the end of the regular season closely approaches, each game this week can make or break a team's chances to play in a conference championship, a bowl game, or the College Football Playoff. Here's some top non-local matchups to take note of during Week 11 action.
No. 3 Michigan at No. 10 Penn State
Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. MST (FOX)
This week marks a special one for Michigan as they face their first top-10 ranked opponent for the season. They may be undefeated, but they have had the 84th most difficult schedule thus far. Will their perfect record hold after facing a more formidable team this week?
The Wolverines' defense is currently ranked No. 1 in the country for yards allowed per game at 6.7; however, Penn State is not far behind as their defense ranks second in yards allowed per game and third in points per game allowed.
No. 13 Tennessee at No. 14 Missouri
Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. MST (CBS)
This will be a nail-biting matchup as both teams have strong offenses under the direction of quarterback Joe Milton III for Tennessee and quarterback Brady Cook for Missouri. The Volunteers currently lead the conference in rushing yards with 227.78 rushing yards per game.
Meanwhile, the Tigers outrank Tennessee when it comes to passing yards with 284.9 yards per game. Missouri is still recovering, in more ways than one, from their loss to Georgia as star wide receiver Luther Burden III is recovering from an ankle injury sustained in the first half of last week's game.
No. 9 Ole Miss at No. 2 Georgia
Saturday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. MST (ESPN)
This Saturday will mark a first for the Ole Miss v. Georgia series as both teams are top-10 ranked teams. A win for either team will mean a lot for the SEC championship as well as the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs may have beat a ranked Missouri team last week at home, but they remain second to Ohio State in the CFP rankings. Ole Miss continues to rank second in the SEC West due to a loss to Alabama during week 4 action.
Miami at No. 4 Florida State
Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. MST (ABC)
Florida State sits comfortably at the top of the ACC and has already secured a spot in the championship game with only one conference game left against Miami. In this rivalry, the Seminoles have taken down the Hurricanes the last two meetups and have that momentum on their side; however, Miami holds the overall series winning streak at 35-32.
USC at No. 6 Oregon
Saturday, Nov. 11 at 8:30 p.m. MsT (FOX)
USC has faced a tough schedule during the second half of the regular season facing three top-25 ranked teams out of the last four games. That number moves up to four ranked teams as the Trojans travel to Eugene to take on the Ducks.
Oregon will be a tough opponent for USC as they have the top ranked scoring offense in the country. The Ducks' quarterback Bo Nix may be about 200 yards shy of USC's Caleb Williams in passing yards this season, but he makes up for it in a 78.1% completion rate over Williams' 69%.
