AMERICAN FORK — The Cavemen continued its undefeated campaign in a 28-0 home win over Bingham Friday night, where the American Fork defense shined bright to pitch the shutout.
"Even though (Bingham) busted a couple big plays, we had guys chasing them down and playing the whole play," American Fork head coach Aaron Behm said. "It shows what (our team) is capable of when they prepare for four days and come out and play together."
A few Cavemen staffers believed Friday's victory to be just the third time in the past two decades where Bingham was held scoreless, with two gutsy goal-line stands for the American Fork defense playing a key role in sputtering the Miners' offense.
"We're going to need more of those at some point in the season," Behm said of the red zone defense. "To be able to get that work and get off the field inside the 10 multiple times tonight is huge."
On offense, Cavemen quarterback Dylan Story found Josh Andrus and Jett Nelson for a pair of touchdown passes in the first half, with Jacob Eardley punching in a 4-yard score in the second quarter, and Dax Watts finishing the night with an end zone trip, as well.
"Yards in the run game didn't come easy, but they did earn them," Behm said. "Nothing was easy in the box."
American Fork moves to 5-0 on the season with the win, with hopes to maintain the momentum within ultra competitive Region 3 play.
"We know that our region is going to be incredibly difficult," Behm said. "To get these reps against that offensive and defensive line and running backs will bode well for us as we head into region play."
