SALT LAKE CITY — A rock climber died Saturday after falling from Mount Olympus, according to Unified police.
Authorities recovered the body of 54-year-old James Roache around 5 p.m. Roache was preparing to rock climb with a friend when he slipped and fell around 100 feet.
The Salt Lake County Search and Rescue were called to the scene near the West Slabs area in the morning. According to a Facebook post from the department, the man slid on steep snow before falling through a narrow space between a wall of rock and snow.
The rescue operation was carried out on foot and by air via a helicopter with Life Flight and the Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau assisting. Roache's climbing parter was also airlifted off the mountain.
