ST. GEORGE — A group of St. George tech companies has raised more than $60,000 to help grant wishes for local children battling illnesses.
The news was announced on Friday when the group of companies — Zonos, Vasion, Busybusy, Easy Storage, and Dixie Tech — surprised its employees with the news they had exceeded their goal.
The group of businesses teamed up this month to launch Tech for Wishes, a campaign aimed at raising money for local children who are sick.
The funds will go directly to Make-A-Wish Utah, which will use them to help grant wishes of local "Wish-kids" in Washington County — and it's already begun.
Two local children battling illnesses were surprised at Friday's event when it was announced their wishes would be granted by the foundation later this year.
Wish-kids Andon and Ryker both got their wishes of a pop-up camping trailer. Ryker, who was able to attend in-person, also got to take a ride in a red Tesla, his dream car.
"We are incredibly grateful for the initiative and support shown through Tech for Wishes," said Make-A-Wish Utah President and CEO Jared Perry in a news release.
The collaboration between the companies began earlier this month, and the group held several fundraising events including an auction, dunk-tank contest, golf tournament and cookout, among others.
The effort made history and marked the largest donation Make-A-Wish has ever received from Washington County in the organization's history. Now, 10 more wishes for Southern Utah children will be granted in the coming months.
"Wishes begin with hope, and because of the efforts demonstrated by these companies and their employees, we can now give hope to deserving families throughout Washington County," Perry said.
