PAYSON — A woman died late Saturday night after the vehicle she was riding in hit a horse on state Route 198.
The accident happened at about 11 p.m. when a horse “found its way onto the roadway” and was hit by the southbound vehicle, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The man driving the vehicle was injured and transported to the hospital, UHP said. His injuries were not life-threatening.
“Unfortunately, the female passenger died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash,” the UHP statement said.
Both the man and woman are in their mid- to late-60s, according to UHP, and live in Juab County. The woman’s name has not yet been released.
Troopers are investigating to find out how the horse got onto the highway.
