SALT LAKE CITY — The newest season of the "Holiday Baking Championship" returned to the Food Network this week. Twelve bakers put their creativity, skill and teamwork out there as they make festive treats while the clock counts down.
One of those bakers is Utah's own Jean Andrew from Logan, who was eliminated in the first episode, which aired Monday. Andrew was one of over 2,000 people who applied for season 13 and the 12 who were selected.
I grew up in a huge family, so I kind of taught myself," Andrew said. "You kind of get born with this 'oh I can do this' gene. It's survival."
"My favorite part was the bakes," she said, recalling her time on the show.
Her gingerbread recipe produces a "nice, soft, yummy cookie." The cookie, Andrew added, is too soft to build gingerbread houses, but it's good to eat.
Andrew used royal icing to adhere snowflake-shaped cookies to create an edible tree.
Andrew teaches cooking classes at Love to Cook in Logan, but she is also available to create sweets for private and corporate events. She posts recipes and classes at jeaners.sweets on Instragram.
