SALT LAKE CITY — A former University of Utah skier died in an avalanche earlier this week, the school announced Friday.

Guro Jordheim, 29, was one of two people killed in Monday's avalanche in Hemsedal, Norway, according to proxcskiing.com.

"We are heartbroken by the sudden, tragic passing of Utah Ski Team alumna Guro Jordheim. Guro was loved by everyone who knew her, both on and off the skis. We send our deepest condolences to her family, friends, teammates and loved ones," a post on the Utah Ski Team's Instagram page reads.

Jordheim skied for the Utes from 2017 to 2020. The seven-time All-American and two-time RMISA women's Nordic Athlete of the Year helped lead Utah to two national championships during her tenure.

On Thursday, police confirmed that Jordheim and Max Andersson, from Sweden, were the two people killed due to the avalanche in a backcountry skiing area in Hemsedal, proxcskiing.com reported.

Prior to her time in Utah, Jordheim made several appearances competing in the National Junior Championships in 2015 and 16. She scored 36th in the 5-kilometer classic at the Norwegian National Championships in 2015.
