Elder Henry B. Eyring — Proved and strengthened in Christ

Elder Henry B. Eyring, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, spoke about how he struggled to learn physics and mathematics in college, feeling overwhelmed and thinking the knowledge was beyond his grasp. However, he later learned that struggle was a gift."He was teaching me that with his help, I could do things that seemed impossible if I had the faith that he would be there to help me," Elder Eyring said. That gift was the Lord working to "prove and strengthen him," he said.

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025"The Lord proves us in much the same way to strengthen us. That proving does not come in moments of ease or comfort. It comes in moments when we feel stretched beyond what we thought we could bear," Elder Eyring said.

We become spiritually stronger by continuing to have faith despite trials that feel impossible, he said, promising that your faith will become purer as it is refined and strengthened in life.Elder Eyring then shared the examples of Book of Mormon prophets Moroni and Jacob, as well as modern-day prophet Joseph Smith, whose faith was refined through loneliness and affliction.

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025The greatest example of proving and strengthening is Jesus Christ, Elder Eyring said. "Because of his glorious Atonement, Jesus Christ can strengthen us in our times of trial. He knows how to succor us because he has felt all the challenges that we will ever feel in mortality," he said.Elder Eyring said every person will be called to endure trials that are proving and strengthening, and each person's trials will look different."I bear witness that these moments are not evidence that the Lord has abandoned you. Rather, they are evidence that he loves you enough to refine and strengthen you. He is making you strong enough to carry the weight of eternal life," he said.— Cassidy Wixom

Sister Andrea Muñoz Spannaus — Prophets of God

Sister Andrea M. Spannaus, second counselor in the Young Women General Presidency, urged youth to seek personal confirmation that modern prophets are chosen by God to speak his will. She told the story from the Old Testament of the woman of Shunem who welcomed the prophet Elisha into her home. Sister Spannaus taught that disciples today can likewise open their hearts and minds to prophetic counsel.

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025"A prophet is a man whom God has called to speak for him," she said, explaining that the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles serve as prophets, seers and revelators, unified in directing the work of the Church of Jesus Christ under divine revelation.Sister Spannaus reminded listeners that prophets in the Book of Mormon — like Abinadi, Samuel the Lamanite and Moroni — bore witness of Jesus Christ's divinity and mission, just as living prophets do today. She invited youth to kneel in prayer and ask God to confirm their testimonies through the Holy Ghost, promising that faith in and obedience to prophetic guidance bring strength and peace. She also spoke to parents, emphasizing their divine responsibility to teach gospel truths to their children. Citing the example of the stripling warriors, she said faithful teaching builds courage and commitment in the rising generation.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson — Look to God and live

Elder D. Todd Christofferson, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, began by sharing the story of a devastating bus accident in the country of Lesotho that claimed 15 lives, including those of several young women and local leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors found comfort in faith, music, scripture and prayer, he said. One 17-year-old said, "Jesus Christ loves us and is with us, even though our hearts hurt."At the funeral service, a church leader made a reference to Alma's counsel to his son Helaman in the Book of Mormon: "Look to God and live."

#LDSConf #GeneralConference #HearHim pic.twitter.com/sMjVu0yKp9

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025He explained that Alma's advice applies to both eternal salvation and daily life. Just as the Israelites were healed by looking to the brass serpent, individuals today can find spiritual healing through Christ's Atonement, he explained."It is only by looking to God that individuals, families and even nations can flourish," Elder Christofferson said.He went on to explain that prosperity doesn't only mean material success, but rather the blessings, guidance and strength that come from following God.He emphasized that looking to God means making him our highest priority and aligning our actions with his commandments, including those in the scriptures and other church publications like "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" and "For the Strength of Youth." These resources, he explained, offer guidance on living a Christ-centered life, including counsel on chastity, respect for the body and moral decision-making.Elder Christofferson said disobedience can distance us from God, but repentance can restore that divine connection.

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025He concluded by returning to the Lesotho survivor's words: "I used to think that I love God, but now I really, really, really, really love him. Now he is the No. 1 priority in my life."— Jenny Rollins

Elder Peter M. Johnson — The power of ministering to the one

Elder Peter M. Johnson of the Seventy emphasized the power of "ministering to the one." He explained how it can be hard to find answers in a world full of "dizzying distractions," but "we help one another become devoted disciples as we minister to the one in ways that lead to the house of the Lord."He spoke of the New Testament story of the Samaritan woman who, feeling judged, chose to go to the well alone in the hottest part of the day. There, she met Jesus and "was one of the first to whom Jesus Christ declared he was the Messiah. To him, this woman was a daughter of God," Elder Johnson said.

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025The woman felt Christ's love and received a witness of him, and then shared that with others. Elder Johnson said we should do the same: Seek a witness of Christ, and then share it with others.Elder Johnson shared how he has felt alone, unseen and discouraged in life, such as when he first learned about the "period that those of Black African descent were not allowed to enjoy all of the blessings of worshiping in the house of the Lord." He said he felt discouraged, angry, doubtful and confused at this information, but his mission companion continued to minister to him with patience, kindness and love.Eventually, Elder Johnson prayed and felt the love of God, who reminded him he was a beloved child of God, and the Holy Ghost confirmed to him the truth of the gospel.

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025"At times we will have unanswered questions and feelings of being unimportant, discouraged, alone and unseen; however, my friends, we must press forward with faith in Jesus Christ and remember his words: 'Let not your heart be troubled,'" Elder Johnson said.— Cassidy Wixom

Elder Ulisses Soares — Adorned with the virtue of temperance

Elder Ulisses Soares, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, likened the recent foundation reinforcement of the Salt Lake Temple to the personal spiritual strengthening each disciple needs in Jesus Christ.Drawing from President Russell M. Nelson's counsel to examine the firmness of one's own foundation, Elder Soares taught that temperance, self-control and moderation are key elements in preventing "spiritual erosion."

#LDSConf #GeneralConference #HearHim pic.twitter.com/3JdVugdXp3

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025Temperance harmonizes with humility, faith, hope and charity to form a vital reinforcement to a disciple's testimony, he said, citing Section 12 in the Doctrine and Covenants. He said those who cultivate it gain serenity, patience and restraint — even in adversity — acting with wisdom rather than impulse.Elder Soares noted that the apostle Paul's instructions to Titus in the New Testament emphasize temperance through qualities such as being "not self-willed" and "not soon angry," traits that anchor believers to the Savior's grace. He warned that the world glorifies aggression and excess, leading to regretful words and actions.True strength, Elder Soares said, lies in humility and calmness, as exemplified by Hannah in the Old Testament and demonstrated perfectly by Jesus Christ himself. He shared an experience he had in meeting Latter-day Saints in Mexico City who endured tragedy yet radiated faith and temperance rather than bitterness.

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025Elder Soares invited listeners to weave temperance into their actions and words, promising that doing so would fortify their lives on the "sure foundation" of Christ and prepare them to meet him "with hope and peace."— Sicily Stanton

Elder James E. Evanson — Go and do likewise

Echoing the last line of "Amazing Grace" that President Jeffrey R. Holland quoted during the previous address, Elder James E. Evanson, of the Seventy, began with the story of Jesus curing a blind man. He cited this as an example of Christ's ministry and reminded the audience of the instruction to go and do likewise. He then mentioned missionaries, specifically honoring service missionaries as examples of three things:

Service opens hearts to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Service allows everyone to minister, no matter their circumstances.

Service brings the power of Jesus Christ into our lives.

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025"You don't need to have a service assignment or wear a name tag to do good. Every act of service is recognized by the Savior," he said.Elder Evanson expressed that someone being called on a service mission "is a moment to celebrate" and that it will "change all of (the people living in the household) for good."He stated that there needn't be disappointment or stigma attached to service missionaries and expressed love to them."You are not second-class missionaries. Each of you is vital to the gathering of Israel," he said.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland — 'And now I see'

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles started off the Sunday morning session sharing the story in John when Jesus Christ made a blind man see by spitting into the dirt and applying the mixture to the blind man's eyes.Twice in the scriptures, the Savior's action was referred to as an "anointing" that would be completed with washing, Elder Holland said."The instruments the Creator of heaven and earth used to provide this miracle: spit and a handful of dirt! These very unlikely ingredients declare that God can bless us by whatever method he chooses," he said.

#LDSConf #GeneralConference #HearHim pic.twitter.com/RVthhEBxoW

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025Other scripture stories give us similar examples of simple answers to problems, like the serpent on the staff that would heal the children of Israel."How easy it is for us to dismiss the source of our redemption because the ingredients, the instruments seem embarrassingly plain," he said. While it may not always be clear why God chooses to answer a prayer in a certain way, we must trust that his plan is the best.

#LDSConf #GeneralConference #HearHim pic.twitter.com/Fp0f0pC0tt

— KSL.com - Utah Breaking News (@KSLcom) October 5, 2025Elder Holland explained how his "sight-giving" experience from the Savior came in the form of the Book of Mormon."The impact in my life of the Book of Mormon is no less miraculous than was the application of spit and dirt placed on a blind man's eyes. It's been, for me, a rod of safety for my soul, a transcendent and penetrating light of revelation, an illumination of the path I must walk when mists of darkness come and surely they have and surely they will," he said.Elder Holland said he has a "whole-souled conviction" that the Book of Mormon and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are true."I have been on the edge of death and back. I have walked with kings and prophets, presidents and apostles. Best of all, at times I have been overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit of God. I trust that my witness should be given at least some consideration here," he said.— Cassidy Wixom
