WOODS CROSS — The Wildcats celebrated a 38-0 homecoming victory over Snow Canyon Friday night following a close, 33-27, loss to Rigby (Idaho) a week ago.

Woods Cross head coach Brody Benson was happy with his team's resilience after last week's loss.

"We needed to do that," he said. "It felt like we were so close last week. We've had a great week of preparation, (and) I was proud of our kids for how we prepared. We had a very short memory, and we didn't let it linger."

Woods Cross opened up a 21-0 first quarter lead, with quarterback Jesse Simmons finding one of his three touchdown passes to Shayden Gerratt. The Wildcats capped off the first quarter with a 60-yard pick-six score by Wyatt Hunter.

"That's a good team over there, and our guys wanted to right the ship and that showed from the jump start," Benson said. "We're going to review the film tomorrow and put this game behind us, and put Westlake in our crosshairs."

The Wildcats added two more scores and a field goal in the second quarter, with touchdown passes to Villami Tapa'atoutai and Gerratt to make it 38-0.

"We fought hard," Simmons said. "Snow Canyon was 3-0 and we've had some rough battles, but we played really good teams. We just wanted to come out and fight, set the tone from the get-go and we did. We kept our foot on the gas and I'm really proud of our team."

With Woods Cross now 2-2 on the season, there is still plenty of football to be played, but Simmons said region play will be difficult.

"Our region's good," he said. "We've got one more preseason game left against Westlake, and they're good, so we just have to take it one game at a time."
