OREM — Orem Mayor David Young announced Thursday he will seek a second four-year term at City Hall, which he said will be his last in the office.

"When I first ran for mayor, I promised to restore accountability, protect our neighborhoods, listen to residents and support small businesses, and we kept those promises," Young said. "Now I'm running for one final term to keep improving the quality of life for every Orem resident, finish the job we started together, and ensure Orem remains Family City, USA."

An announcement video touted several of the mayor's accomplishments since taking office in 2022, including the construction of the new Orem City Center, establishing a permanent monument to Gold Star families, and creating online tools for transparency and city services.

Young is the CEO of Paragon Wealth Management and promised to continue to deliver results for the city without raising taxes.

"I'm not here for politics; I'm here to solve problems," he said in his announcement video. "We upgraded emergency services, revitalized parks and protected our city from overdevelopment — all while keeping taxes flat. If you believe Orem is worth fighting for, worth protecting and improving, I'd be honored to earn your vote one more time to ensure Orem remains a great place to live, work and raise a family."

During his first term, Young, his son and his real estate company were ordered by an Alabama judge to pay more than $1 million in a lawsuit over fraudulent business loans. Young, however, argued that ruling was based on false testimony and sued his former daughter-in-law and an Alabama man, alleging they engaged in an illegal scheme to defraud him.

Young also sued the attorneys who represented the plaintiffs in the original case against him. That case was settled in December of 2024 but not further details were given. A spokesman for the mayor said Young was happy with the settlement.

The official filing period for the mayoral seat and three City Council positions runs from June 2-6, according to Orem's website. Candidates must be registered voters and Orem residents for at least 12 months immediately preceding the election.

The municipal primary election is scheduled for Aug. 12, and the general election is on Nov. 4.
