SEEING DOUBLE — It's good to be Diego Luna, the 21-year-old Real Salt Lake star and reigning MLS Young Player of the Year who has embraced his new home state for however long he's here before signing a lucrative contract to play in Europe.
But it's also good to be the other Diego Luna, perhaps better known outside of soccer circles: the 45-year-old Mexican-born actor who is currently best known for his role as Cassian Andor in the Disney+ series "Andor" about the Star Wars character.
In a strange twist of fate — or, more likely, clever marketing — the two joined forces this weekend at the premiere of Andor season 2, where the two made a real-life version of the "Spider-Man twins" meme on Hollywood's red carpet.
"It was fun. I've been a big fan of him," Utah's Diego Luna said after morning training in Herriman, where the youngster caught a 5:30 a.m. flight to be back home to rejoin his RSL teammates for practice. "He's had a couple of movies that I've been a huge fan of. To meet him and actually be able to interact, for him to know who I am and to know things about me, about soccer, about my personal life, was pretty cool.
"It was awesome to get along."

The Luna-to-Luna face-to-face wasn't the only star-studded moment of the younger Luna's weekend, either. After Salt Lake's 2-1 loss to Nashville SC, the attacking midfielder also caught up briefly with rapper Travis Scott during a weekend where he flew to Los Angeles for the premiere and made it back in time for training.
One Diego Luna will be back at work Saturday night, when Real Salt Lake hosts Toronto FC at America First Field (7:30 p.m. MDT, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).
As for the other Diego Luna? Well, you can catch him on Andor season 2 beginning April 22 on Disney+.
