PROVO — Within two weeks of the end of its season in the Sweet 16, BYU men's basketball has gone big game hunting.
The latest catch: a top-tier point guard in the transfer portal.
Former Baylor guard Rob Wright III has reportedly signed with BYU and head coach Kevin Young, giving the second-year collegiate coach a former All-Big 12 freshman point guard following the departure of Egor Demin to the NBA draft, as first reported by 247Sports and others.
Wright averaged 11.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game in 35 appearances last season for the Bears, including 21 starts. He shot 41% from the field and 34% from deep in his lone season in Waco, Texas, including a career-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting with six assists in Baylor's 81-70 win over Kansas back on Feb. 1.
The former Montverde Academy guard who played with Duke superstar Cooper Flagg in high school also averaged 15.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds in a pair of NCAA Tournament games; and erupted for 22 points, six assists and four boards on 6-of-12 shooting in a 93-89 overtime loss to BYU in the Marriott Center back on Jan. 28.

A former four-star recruit, Wright was the No. 27-rated player and second-rated point guard by On3 in 2024. The recruiting service then rated him a top-10 transfer and one of the top guards in the portal when he entered following Baylor's additions of JJ White (Omaha), Obi Agbim (Wyoming) and Michael Rataj (Oklahoma State).
Wright is the second player to commit to BYU as a transfer, joining redshirt freshman Dominique Diomande from Washington. The 6-foot-8 wing forward averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 steals in 26 games in the France-ProA U21 league for ADA Bois before signing with the Huskies and enrolling in January before not playing.
The Cougars have also lost freshman forward Kanon Catchings, freshman point guard Elijah Crawford and rising senior point guard Dallin Hall to the transfer portal.
