MIDVALE — Intermountain Health's on-demand services are expanding, helping patients access medications faster and reducing barriers to care.
KSL-TV recently took a tour of Intermountain's Supply Chain Center in Midvale, where pharmacists are busy filling around 1,800 prescriptions per day.
"We've really grown accustomed to this e-commerce where you can just click a button, and things arrive at our doorstep. We're bringing that into health care, and it's been really successful," said Mason Hilton, operations director for pharmacy services at Intermountain Health.

Intermountain first started offering on-demand pharmacy services in 2022 and now is adding more products that can be shipped all over the country.
Hilton said that these on-demand services free up providers to see patients with more urgent needs and allow patients to get medications without having to go to a doctor's office — particularly convenient for those in more rural locations.

"We've got a lot of people living in areas where we don't have a large footprint for our health system, and we wanted to provide medication access to them in just new and innovative ways," he said.
Services include medications for hair loss, erectile dysfunction, birth control, cold sores, and weight loss. The center also provides lab tests, where a phlebotomist can come directly to a patient's home to do a blood draw.
The cost can range from $20 to $50, depending on the service. Patients can fill out an online questionnaire; then, barring any issues, a pharmacist fills the medication and ships it directly to the patient's home.

"We want to bring the care that we provide to patients where they want it, when they want it, and how they want it," Hilton said.
