THE FOREST — Those of us who watched the old TV series "When Animals Attack!" were conditioned from a young age to assume any animal could attack you at any moment. I mean, if enough videotaped attacks are happening to fill four seasons of the show, you know that one false step might lead to you being featured in an episode.

Here is just a handful of the animals I came to fear thanks to "When Animals Attack!":

  • Lions
  • Tigers
  • Bears
  • Cassowaries
  • Orcas
  • Wolverines
  • Weasels
  • Shrews

Why shrews, you might be wondering? That's actually not because of the show. It's because I once found a shrew in the orchard next to my house and it bit my finger. Drew blood.

After watching this video, I'm realizing that even the most aggressive of shrews have nothing on Venus flytraps:

Not familiar with Venus flytraps? The user who uploaded the video is a nature photographer, and he offers a thorough description of the plant, even calling it "a deadly beauty."

I'm just thankful Venus flytraps don't get bigger. They're downright scary-looking. And if they were big enough to menace humans, you'd better believe there'd be a new TV series called "When Plants Attack!"
