THE HIGHWAY — When I was driving to Boulder late one night, a mountain lion stepped out of the darkness and walked right toward our car. Seemingly unconcerned by our presence, it approached the passenger side and peered into the window at us.
That was the only time I've ever seen a cougar in the wild. After years of hiking and fishing in remote areas with no sightings, it was right on state Route 12 that I had such a rare experience.
Sometimes, the things we see on the road aren't as majestic as a mountain lion. Maybe it's a bizarre contraption being driven to Burning Man. Or a ghostly figure you notice walking along a lonely lane. The driver who posted this video thought a train was heading right for them.
This strange little encounter occurred in New Hampshire.
"Really caught me off guard ... all of the sudden I was caught off-guard when it SEEMED like there was a train headed right for me," the video description states.
I have to admit, those are some sneaky-looking rails. If I'd seen that train cruising along the road like that, I probably would've thought the same thing.
