NORTH POLE — We haven't had a major dose of snow yet, at least in Utah's lower altitudes, but if you're hankering for a real taste of cold and ice, here you go — a polar bear trudging across the Arctic Ocean.

I've had snow on my brain and considered sharing a video that shows snowed-in people in the Great Lakes area who were hit by heavy snow over the Thanksgiving weekend, or a bubble freezing in Minnesota. I also saw the video of the missing elderly couple in Turkey who whom rescuers found hugging lambs to keep warm during a snowstorm.

But I settled on this video of a polar bear, filmed on Oct. 2 this year.

It's pretty spectacular imagery, the large white animal stepping from ice block to ice block as the ocean underneath swells, up and down, up and down. "One of the most incredible sights I've witnessed in the Arctic," wrote Benjamin Hardman, who posted the video. He's based in Iceland and specializes in photography and filming in cold places.

The animal makes it look easy, but it has to be difficult.

"I want this type of calmness (and) confidence in my life. ... Hats off to the bear," wrote one commenter.

"So beautiful and terrifying at the same time," wrote another.

In another video short, a polar bear traversing ice blocks pauses and stands. "It seems like an unnatural movement but it is something that they do all the time to get a higher vantage point," Hardman writes.
