ARABIAN NIGHTS — We're almost at the point where Tom Holmoe's yearly costume is as big of a Halloween tradition as trick-or-treating.
This year, the BYU athletic director went as the villain Jafar from the Disney film "Aladdin." The get-up included the famed cobra-headed scepter as well as the quick-witted parrot Iago.

It's actually the second time Holmoe has drawn inspiration from Aladdin when choosing his yearly costume. In 2019, he went as the Genie, blue skin and all.
Holmoe's other past costumes have included Lord Voldemort and Albus Dumbledore from "Harry Potter," Yoda from "Star Wars," Rafiki from "The Lion King" and Abraham Lincoln from, well, United States history.
They have all featured some heavy makeup to pull off the elaborate looks. The process of transforming into the characters isn't unlike actors who take on such roles in movies.
"The question I get the most is, 'How long does it take?' And that ranges. I think the shortest was two and a half hours, and I think one of them was getting close to four hours," Holmoe said in a Y Magazine video in 2021.
Maybe he can top that next year.
