HERRIMAN — Revenge sure is sweet.
Morgan and Ogden faced off twice earlier in the season, with both teams splitting wins. But the third and final matchup came in the 3A state championship.
Morgan has been eliminated by Ogden in the tournament the last three years, but a goal in the 47th minute by Kendall Peterson propelled the Trojans over the Tigers to clinch the state title with a 2-1 win for the first time since 2020.
"It's been a few years since we've won it, and I feel like they just wanted this," Morgan head coach Bryan Searle said.
It wouldn't be easy, though, as the Tigers had not given up a goal since Oct. 8. The Trojans had an uphill battle to take down Ogden.
Off a free kick in the 16th minute, midfielder Macie Burton launched a ball perfectly to the top corner of the net to elevate the Trojans to a 1-0 lead early in the championship match.

Morgan's offensive intensity increased, putting up shot after shot, which limited Ogden's chances to get up shots of their own. Searle said that was part of the game plan to continue to push the ball, even when leading.
The Tigers nearly tied things up in the 36th minute when Megan Beus nearly headed in a well-placed cross, but it was to no avail as Ogden remained scoreless in the first half.
Two minutes into the second half, Ogden's Elle Watson found herself with space in the box, but was fouled before she was able to get a shot up and was awarded a penalty kick.
Watson buried it to tie the game up 1-1.
But the tie game wouldn't last long. A corner kick found the head of Peterson, which found nylon, as the Trojans pulled ahead 2-1 for what was the game-winner.
