Tanner Harvey is a proud Snow College alumnus who credits his alma mater for providing him with the tools, support and opportunities that have transformed his life. The small Ephraim school offers unique advantages for its students, including smaller class sizes, affordable tuition and a caring, personalized approach to education.

Harvey's initial reason for choosing Snow College was its affordability, but it didn't take long for him to realize that the college offered so much more than just low-cost tuition.

"I wanted a place where I wasn't just a number," he shared, and Snow College's close-knit community, supportive faculty, and accessible financial aid made it the perfect environment for him to thrive academically. It's a place where students are seen as individuals, not statistics — a feature that truly sets Snow College apart from other schools.

Teachers who care

The strong sense of community at Snow College isn't just about affordable tuition or small classes — it's about teachers who truly care. During a particularly challenging period in his academic career, Harvey thought about quitting school altogether. But that's when an inspired teacher stepped in to make what would prove to be a life-changing difference.

Ron Dalley, Harvey's math professor, not only guided him through his coursework, but he also took time to help Harvey develop a genuine love for learning. This personalized attention helped Harvey graduate with two associate degrees, ultimately laying the foundation for his future academic and professional growth.

The experiences I had at Snow College were pivotal to my transition into adulthood. I learned how to learn. I learned to make friendships. I learned that that's where I belong.

–Abby Cox, Utah First Lady

Setting you up for future success

Thanks to Snow College's seamless transfer process, Harvey was able to pursue his bachelor's degree without the hassle of losing credits, making the transition to a four-year university smooth and stress-free. Today, he works as a professional automotive technician, a career sparked by the passion and expertise of his Snow College instructors.

The beautiful thing is that his experience at Snow has come full circle. Harvey currently works as an instructor at Davis Technical College, where he continues to pay it forward by inspiring students, just as his professors once inspired him.

Harvey's story is just one example of how Snow College equips students with the skills and confidence to succeed, no matter their career path. But it won't take too much digging to find several more examples.

What other well-known alumni are saying

Utah's first lady, Abby Cox, is another former Snow student who looks back fondly at her time there.

"The experiences I had at Snow College were pivotal to my transition into adulthood," she said. "I learned how to learn. I learned to make friendships. I learned that that's where I belong."

Another alumnus, former BYU football head coach Bronco Mendenhall, said, "It provided this intimacy with professors, intimacy with coaches, intimacy with friends, and enough diversity to really give me a comprehensive start to my life. I attribute so much of my success — there are so many good things that have happened in my life — to my foundational beginnings at Snow."

Jackson Ogden, an entrepreneur and former Snow student, added, "The teachers care, the classes are small… I also think that the social experience that someone has there is second to none. It appeals to anybody. No matter what your focus is, you can find your classes and get that general education going and get a jump start on where you want to go."
