OGDEN — Ogden's 12th Street, which connects to I-15, will be closed at the Union Pacific rail line west of Wall Avenue over the weekend so the busy crossing can be rebuilt, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
What's more, several other roadways in Salt Lake County will also face disruption for planned work in coming days, though they won't last as long. UDOT "is encouraging drivers to consider several upcoming construction projects when planning their travel routes over the next several days," the agency said in a statement.
According to UDOT, 12th Street in Ogden will be closed in both directions at around 500 West, where the north-south Union Pacific rail line bisects the road. The closure will go from 9 p.m. Friday to around 5 a.m. next Monday. "Motorists should avoid the area and can use the 400 North or 21st Street I-15 interchanges as alternate routes," UDOT said.
Local officials have long pushed for construction of an overpass at the location to avoid disruption of auto traffic caused by passing trains.
Here are the Salt Lake County roadwork plans:
- I-215 in Salt Lake County will be closed at 2700 South in West Valley City next Monday from 1-5 a.m. for bridge repairs. Southbound I-215 traffic is being winnowed to one lane ahead of that this week from 7 p.m.-5 a.m. for preparatory work.
- The southbound I-15 off-ramp to I-215 east and west, as well as the I-215 southbound on-ramp from westbound I-215, will be closed on Thursday for lane striping.
- The southbound I-15 ramp to I-215, the 7200 South on-ramp to southbound I-15 and the I-215 southbound collector ramp from eastbound I-215 will be closed from Saturday to Monday for lane striping.
- UDOT crews will be out replacing worn road signs in Salt Lake Valley the next several nights, disrupting traffic on southbound I-15 from 900 South to 1300 South from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday. A handful of other road sections in the Salt Lake Valley will also face closure in the early morning hours of Sunday and Monday for sign replacement.
