SOUTH JORDAN — The Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation announced a $25 million donation to Salt Lake County for a new regional arts center in South Jordan.

"We believe that the arts have a profound ability to enrich lives, foster connection, and strengthen communities," said Gail Miller, chairwoman of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, in a statement Tuesday.

Larry H. Miller Real Estate donated 3 acres of land in the downtown Daybreak area, "ensuring the center's strategic location and accessibility to residents across the region," a statement from the county said.

Plans for the center include an 800-seat proscenium theater, two multi-use performance, rehearsal and event spaces, a visual art gallery and classroom space. A groundbreaking for the center will be in January 2026, with an expected opening in early 2028.

"This donation is an investment in the future of our community, providing a space where creativity can thrive and where people of all backgrounds can experience the transformative power of the arts. We are honored to work with Salt Lake County to support the creation of this new arts center and look forward to seeing the impact it will have for generations to come," Miller said.

The Salt Lake County Arts and Culture division will manage and operate the center.

Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson said the county is "incredibly fortunate" to partner with the Miller Family Foundation on bringing the arts center to life.

"Their unwavering commitment to the arts in our community is inspiring, and this new venue will be a vital cultural hub for the rapidly growing southwest valley," Wilson said in a statement.

The facility's proposed name is the Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Arts Center, but the public is invited to comment on the name at a public hearing on Oct. 22. The County Council will formally make a decision on the name after the public hearing.

A county statement said the arts center will fulfill key recommendations outlined in the county's 2008 and 2020 cultural master plans.

"This center will provide essential performance, rehearsal, creation, and exhibition space and technical support to meet the needs of the southwest valley," the county statement said.
