SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz have reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with sharpshooting wing Svi Mykhailiuk.
According to ESPN, Mykhailiuk — who won the NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in June — will sign a four-year, $15-million contract with the Jazz. It's expected that most of those years and dollars will be non-guaranteed.
The Jazz will be Mykhailiuk's eighth team since being drafted in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2018 draft.
Mykhailiuk, 27, played a single season with the Celtics after signing with Boston, appearing in 41 games and averaging 4.0 points and 1.2 rebounds.
He shot 38.9 percent from 3-point range last season and 42% in 2022-23 with the Charlotte Hornets and New York Knicks 42%. Despite that shooting prowess —he has a knack for hitting tough 3s — he has yet to find a home in the NBA.
It made sense that he couldn't crack the Celtics' rotation with how deep they were on the wing, but he also struggled to fund court time with the Hornets, Knicks and Raptors over the last few seasons.
Will that change with the Jazz? If anything else, there does seem to be a better path for him to get court time.
With Utah shallow on the wing — especially at small forward — there could be an opening for Mykhailiuk to get regular playing time. Simone Fontecchio took advantage of a similar situation last season to eventually earn a starting spot before he was traded to Detroit.
The Jazz now appear to be down to one guaranteed roster spot left. Utah agreed to terms with center Drew Eubanks last month and are also expected to sign second-round pick Kyle Filipowski.
