KIMBALL JUNCTION, Summit County — A semitruck crashed into a concrete barrier while traveling west down I-80 Saturday, police say, killing the passenger of the vehicle.

About 4:30 a.m., the driver of a semi towing a 53-foot trailer hit the barrier at Lamb's Canyon on I-80, which caused the trailer to detach from the semi and remain on the roadway, blocking all lanes of traffic, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The semi rolled down the north embankment, ejecting the passenger from the cab and killing him. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, troopers said.

A fundraiser* created by the passenger's cousin identified him as Malkeet Singh, 30.

Singh leaves behind his parents, wife and two young children who are in a dire financial situation in India as he was the one providing money for the family. The fundraiser said the family is hoping to get the funds to send Singh's body back to India so the family can see him.
