OGDEN — With hopes to keep Montana State's offense off the field for much of the night, Weber State couldn't get the job done Saturday at Stewart Stadium.

The Bobcats shutout the Wildcats, securing a 40-0 win over the home team.

The first quarter highlighted a strong defensive effort from both teams for a scoreless first 15 minutes. But just one minute into the second quarter, the game took a turn as the Bobcats threw the first punch when Wyoming transfer Sean Chambers got the offense rolling with a 29-yard pass to Treyton Pickering for the first touchdown of the night.

Chambers continued his offensive showing in the second quarter, while Weber State's defense collapsed and allowed 143 rushing yards and 59 passing yards in the second quarter alone. The Bobcats' quarterback found the end zone on a 10-yard run with just over seven minutes left in the first half to give the visiting team a double-digit lead.

Chambers added to the scoring before the half with a 29-yard rushing touchdown to take a 20-0 halftime lead. Meanwhile, Weber State only averaged 2 yards per play in the first half against a stingy defensive showing by the Bobcats.

"Our defense is playing hard out there, but we've just got to get them off the field and be more productive on offense," Weber State head coach Mickey Mental said.

Weber State gained some momentum in the second half and got into Bobcats territory, but the defense continued its prowess and forced a turnover on downs to get the ball back and keep the Wildcats out of the end zone.

The Wildcats' momentum stopped there, though, and it was all Bobcats after that. Montana State found the end zone three more times in the fourth quarter to score the shutout victory in Ogden.

Chambers passed for 172 yards for two touchdowns, and rushed for 114 yards with an additional two rushing touchdowns.

Montana State moves to 3-1 and will go back home to take on Portland State Sept. 30 in Bozeman. Weber State falls to 2-2 and will hit the road next week to face Northern Colorado.
