AMERICAN FORK — For the first time in 24 games, Lehi has been defeated.

The Pioneers were outmatched in their inaugural Region 3 affair as a member of 6A, falling 62-28 to American Fork Friday night on the road.

"We knew that they were a very good team for whatever (class) they're in, so we had to play our best to beat a team like them," American Fork head coach Aaron Behm said.

While Lehi trailed by just 6 points late in the second quarter, a 35-point Cavemen swing put the night far out of reach. The Pioneers only found the end zone once in the second half and coughed up four turnovers.

"(Forcing turnovers) is always an emphasis from our defensive coaches," Behm said.

American Fork running back Jacob Eardley accounted for four rushing scores on the night, while quarterback Dylan Story connected with receivers Josh Andrus, Davis Andrews and Zane Edwards for three passing touchdowns, as well. Dax Watts added a rushing touchdown, and scored again with a pick six on defense.

"We want to be diverse (on offense)," Behm said. "We knew if we were able to run the ball it would open things up in the secondary, and when we got up a little bit we were able to lean on our tight ends and running backs and were able to put it away there."

The Cavemen move to 6-0 on the season with the win and are now set to face off with rival Lone Peak on the road next week.
