CLEARFIELD — The upcoming Kulture Krash in Clearfield on Saturday is a great day if you like anything automotive or custom. Organizers say it’s for car lovers, by car lovers.

Last year it drew more than 500 entries to its car show, but it’s not a car show. It has a swap meet, but it’s more than that. It has fun vendors but is not about stuff.

The main component of the Krash is the art auction and raffle. For months, artists ranging from pinstripers, painters, welders, to more conventional painters have been working on and donating their work. Those projects will be auctioned off or raffled to raise money for charity.

Scotty George, one of the organizers, said that after clearing operating expenses, they’ve donated thousands of dollars to two major charities. Their main benefactor is Angel’s Hands Foundation, a Utah charity assisting parents of children with special needs, especially those with rare and/or undiagnosed diseases. George said last year they loaded up a Christmas tree with $2,000 worth of custom car-themed decorations for the Festival of Trees and the tree raised another $8,000 at the auction.

Here’s what you can expect this year:

  • Artists from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, Oklahoma and California
  • Additional art shipped in from Florida and Wisconsin
  • Live bands, with additional music from car show staple JC Hackett
  • Pinstriping to order on-site
  • Costume parade for kids
  • Raffle items including custom-painted Blendtec blender, mini fridge, skateboards and a guitar
  • A custom big-screen-meets-Buick television

George said the event will have a Halloween theme.

If you want to get something pinstriped, but don’t know how to approach a striper, he said to look around until you see work you like, talk about colors and themes you might like, and talk about price. Major jobs can be upward of $100; a few lines can be had for about 10 bucks; and if you ask right, you might get a few lines on your cellphone for free. Make sure to watch the pinstripers at work; their ability to drag straight and symmetrical lines is worth checking out.

The event is held on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fisher Park in Clearfield, 920 S. 1000 East.

Go to Kulture Krash's facebook page for more information about the event.
