OGDEN — The body of a 23-year-old man who went missing after cliff jumping at Causey Reservoir was recovered Saturday evening.
Angel Harris, from Newark, Delaware, was recovered at 9:10 p.m. and taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy, according to Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Sean Endsley.
Harris was an airman first class.
The Weber County Sheriff's Office originally received 911 texts and calls about a drowning across from the spillway dam on the east side of the water at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The man who was reportedly cliff jumping went into the water but never came back up after briefly resurfacing, Endsley said.
Weber County Sheriff's deputies, the Weber County Fire Department, and Weber County EMS, all responded, and a helicopter was also deployed, though it could not locate the man.
Weber County Search and Rescue dive teams were also assisted in the search along with Ogden City Fire Department, Riverdale Fire Department, and Utah Department of Natural Resources.
Dive teams searched the reservoir for many hours before search leaders opted to use a remote-operated vehicle from DNR located Harris' body in an area of the reservoir that was roughly 48 feet deep. Divers then recovered Harris' body.
The 388th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office noted that Harris joined the U.S. Air Force eight months ago and was stationed at Hill Air Force Base. Those who knew Harris and who led him have shared words of grief with the communities in Newark and Ogden, led by Col. Charles Fallon, 388th Fighter Wing commander.
"Our hearts go out to the family, friends and our fellow Airmen who lost a close teammate," said Fallon. "We all share the sorrow when we lose one of our own. The Air Force is a family, and we will provide every bit of comfort and help that we can during this tragic time."
