'Hymns — For Home and Church' now has 48 hymns with latest update

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released 11 new hymns on Thursday, marking 48 songs so far in the church's new "Hymns — For Home and Church" hymnbook that have been gradually released over multiple months.

One of the new songs puts the familiar words to "The Lord is my Shepherd" to a new tune, the familiar Christmas song, "Still, Still, Still" is now in the holiday section of the new book, and the song "Oh, How Great Is Our Joy" currently in the Spanish hymnbook as "Placentero nos es Trabajar" has been translated for the new book.

There are also multiple new children's songs about Christ, pioneers, the Book of Mormon and the sabbath day.

The church recently announced the new book would have about 350 songs, and is expected to be released in full and printed in four languages, including English, in 2027. Members are encouraged to use the new songs in their worship as they are released.

Elder Dale G. Renlund of the church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who is involved with the new hymnbook, said he hopes members take advantage of the new hymns and music's ability to deepen love and appreciation for God, Christ, and the restored church.

"It's our hope that everyone will realize that this is a new day. ... That this is a wonderful day where there's a refreshing of this hymnal that we have, and we're hopeful that everyone thoroughly enjoys these new hymns and actually develops new favorites that, in years to come, become their old favorites," he said.

The latest collection of 11 new hymns includes:

• "Look unto Christ"
• "Oh, How Great Is Our Joy"
• "I'm a Pioneer Too"
• "As I Keep the Sabbath Day"
• "Read the Book of Mormon and Pray"
• "I'm Gonna Live So God Can Use Me"
• "The Lord's My Shepherd"
• "Because"
• "His Voice as the Sound"
• "O Lord, Who Gave Thy Life for Me"
• "Still, Still, Still"

The songs will become available online and on church apps by Friday.
