WASHINGTON, Washington County — A woman was struck by a semitruck and killed while in the roadway on I-15 near St. George Friday morning, leading to the closure of southbound lanes.

Troopers were not sure why the woman was in the roadway or where she came from, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden. No further details of the crash, including the woman's identity, were released Friday.

The incident happened about 6 a.m., with traffic officials alerting that the southbound lanes of I-15 were closed due to a crash near Main Street in Washington just after 6 a.m.

A separate alert said northbound lanes and the left shoulder of I-15 were blocked near Washington Parkway, about a mile northeast of the first crash, just before 7 a.m, but those lanes had reopened as of 8:30 a.m.

Traffic was diverted off the freeway exit near Washington's Main Street during the closure — which had resolved as of 11:15 a.m. — Roden said.
