KAYSVILLE — A fire that officials suspect was sparked by an electrical vehicle that was charging in the driveway of a Kaysville home destroyed the vehicle and garage of the adjacent house.

"Thankfully, no injuries were reported to either civilians or firefighters. However, the home sustained significant damage, with property and content losses estimated at over $200,000," the Kaysville Fire Department said in a statement.

Firefighters were called to the fire about 3 p.m. Wednesday, and when they arrived, the car was fully engulfed in flames, and the fire had extended to the adjacent home, located on Vista View Drive. They were able to contain most of the damage to the vehicle and the attic area of the home's garage, getting the blaze under control by 3:35 p.m.

The fire displaced the residents of the home, who were staying with family.

"Preliminary investigation suggests the fire was accidental and originated in an electric vehicle that was charging in the driveway. The fire then spread to the home," the fire department said. "The investigation remains ongoing, and findings are subject to change pending the final report."
