BOUNTIFUL — It appeared Bountiful was headed for its sixth straight win over crosstown rival Viewmont with a 27-13 halftime lead.
But the Vikings rallied and held the Redhawks scoreless through the second half and two overtimes periods to win 33-27 in the battle of Bountiful for the first time since 2018 on Friday.
"We wanted to see where we stacked up to a team that just played for a state title," Viewmont head coach Andru Jones said. "We felt like we could play with them. And we heard some people say our (defense) was a little soft, (but) in the second half they played really well."
The Vikings defense not only didn't give up any points after halftime, but it came up with a fumble in the first overtime period and an interception in the second to set up a dramatic final drive for quarterback Titan Longson to seal the win.
Viewmont with an end zone interception and then a touchdown in double overtime to beat Bountiful 33-27.

"I was freaking gassed, and I was like, 'I'm just gonna give this ball and let my line and running back do the work,'" Longson said of the game-winning run by fellow senior Blake Moore. "I'm so glad for our team. I think we're gonna do really big things. I'm excited to see where it takes us."
Longson was a major reason the Vikings made it to overtime at all. The QB had a pair of rushing touchdowns and a passing score through three quarters, and then tied the game at 27-27 with a touchdown pass on fourth down and a 2-point conversion throw with 2:35 left in the fourth quarter.
Viewmont also got some help from its home field goal post that kept out a Bountiful attempt that would've put the Redhawks up 30-13 midway through the third quarter.
The Vikings move to 4-0 on the season — the first 4-0 start to a season since 2006 for Viewmont, when it started 6-0 — with another home game against Northridge next week. Bountiful falls to 3-1 and will stay on the road at Bonneville next week.
