SALT LAKE CITY— Screen time doesn’t stand a chance against these mom-approved summer activities. Megan Hill Jensen shared creative ways to get your kids outside and playing this summer. She also explained why it is rewarding to see your kids engaged in play time. She shared some suggestions that will help you get busy and stay outside. Jensen said these crafts are low cost, simple with not a lot of prep. "We want to make your life easier, not add more stress to it," she said.
Bouncy bubbles
"No matter their age, these are the 'unpoppable' bubbles," Jensen said. To make these, Jensen said to add one cup water, two tablespoons dish soap, and two tablespoons of corn syrup or glycerin. Wear some gloves as a layer of protection to keep the bubble from popping.
Large bubbles
She bought this kit on Amazon. It comes with the bubble rope and solution. For an alternative, make the solution at home:
- 6 cups water
- 1/2 corn starch
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon glycerin
- 1/2 cup of dish soap
Ice escape
Jensen said there any many variations to this activity. Get some toys, fill up a ballon with water, freeze it over night, and let the kids dig the toy out. She recommends freezing a toy that isn't a favorite because it can break.
