Fishing Pineview Reservoir before the drawdown: What anglers need to know

Pineview Reservoir is about to undergo one of the most significant changes in its history as Ogden City prepares to draw the lake down to approximately 2% capacity to replace a 50-year-old water pipeline located beneath the reservoir.

The project has anglers asking a critical question: What will happen to the fishery?

In this episode, we visit Pineview Reservoir to learn how the dramatic drawdown could impact fish populations, including the lake's popular tiger muskie fishery. Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Aquatics Program Manager Chris Penne explains the agency's strategy for protecting and rebuilding fish populations once construction is complete. We also hear from Blake Millett, president of Mountain West Muskies Chapter 65, about concerns surrounding the future of tiger muskies and what anglers can expect in the years ahead.

Along the way, we take advantage of temporary liberal limits and hit the water to see firsthand how Utah's anglers are responding to one of the most consequential fisheries management events the reservoir has seen in decades.
