SALT LAKE CITY — A new presidency was called to lead the Primary organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during general conference on Saturday.

President Rosemary K. Chibota was sustained as Primary general president along with Sister Nina M. Garfield as first counselor and Sister Theresa A. Collins as second counselor. These three women will lead the church's organization for children between 18 months and 11 years.

President Chibota is of Malawian origin and was raised in Zimbabwe; she currently lives in South Jordan. She has worked for the church as a human resources generalist and as a senior executive assistant in the Quorum of the Seventy office.

She and her husband, Joel, have one child and served as mission leaders in the Alabama Birmingham Mission.

Sister Garfield lives in Orem, Utah, and was born in Japan. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while in high school.

She is a homemaker and a widow; she and her husband David had five children. Sister Garfield is currently a stake Relief Society president.

Sister Collins lives in Draper and is a homemaker. She currently serves as a nursery leader, a temple ordinance worker and a stake mission preparation instructor. She and her husband, Richard, have four children. They served as mission leaders in the Arkansas Bentonville Mission.

"The Primary general presidency works to strengthen children and families throughout the church," a statement from the church said.

The previous presidency, President Susan H. Porter, Sister Amy A. Wright and Sister Tracy Y. Browning, will complete their service on Aug. 1 as the new presidency begins its service.

Elder Benjamin M. Z. Tai, from Hong Kong, was called as a new member of the Presidency of the Seventy, which presides over all members of the seventy. He has served as a general authority seventy since 2019 and as an assistant executive director of the Missionary Department and an area assistant in the North America southeast area.

Eight general authority seventies were also called and sustained by church members.
