Elder Ulisses Soares — Jesus Christ — The true vine

Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke about the true vine of Jesus Christ, the one that people must spiritually connect with in order to maintain their personal peace."Just as the branches cannot bear fruit of themselves unless they remain connected to the vine, neither can we reach our full spiritual measure unless we abide in him and his gospel," Elder Soares said.

"Abiding in Christ is not an occasional or casual act; it is a constant, conscious and sacred choice. Elder Clement M. Matswagothata — He knows you by name

Elder Clement M. Matswagothata of the Seventy began his talk by sharing the meaning of his surname in his home country of Botswana: "One who can get out of a difficult situation." The member of the Seventy explained that his name was a reminder to him that Jesus Christ can help get him through life's challenges.

"Even as Jesus Christ invites us to always remember Him and take upon ourselves His name, He also remembers us and knows each of us by name." — #ElderMatswagothata | #GeneralConference

— GeneralConference (@ldsconf) April 4, 2026Citing the frequent times when Christ called people by their names, Elder Matswagothata noted, "He knows you and calls you by name too — from crowded cities to quiet villages, in whatever language you speak. He hears, sees and knows you."He told a story about how, during a time of personal grief and stress, a young boy told Elder Matswagothata that the boy's family was praying for him by name every day. This comment reminded him that God was aware of him in his sorrow."To the Savior, we are never lost in the crowd. He knows how to reach us — through a hymn, a smile, a kind word, and sometimes through people we least expect. Just as that family prayed for me, there is someone praying for you," he said.

Elder Brian J. Holmes — Jesus Christ is the way

After Elder Brian J. Holmes of the Quorum of the Seventy ran a marathon across difficult trails in the Swiss Alps, he learned one of the other runners was blind. The man ran tied to a guide runner, and when the path required, that runner went ahead and called back directions."Because he was bound to a guide, the blind runner accomplished what would otherwise be impossible alone," he said.Elder Holmes told members during his general conference address they need a guide to get through trials in life. He invited them to bind themselves to the Savior and follow God's prophets."We all face trials. Without a power greater than our own, no one successfully finishes this race," he said.

He said Jesus will never sever that tie to him."We can expect his power to bless us with strength and joy even when we are experiencing a steep stretch of life. But if we turn away, we have no such promise. Covenant blessings flow from ongoing faithfulness, not merely from past participation," Elder Holmes said.Elder Holmes said God calls prophets to help people follow him, and to knowingly reject those prophets is to reject God."Without apostles and prophets, our perception of Christ gradually becomes whatever we want him to be. Our understanding of doctrine shifts. Our commitment to standards erodes. Unity dissolves," he said.

Elder Gérald Caussé — Love all, love each

Elder Gérald Caussé of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared the outpouring of love he had felt after being called to serve as an apostle for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Not only had he and his wife felt the outpouring of love, but he himself had also found his own capacity to love had grown.

"A journalist asked me this simple yet profound question: 'What have you come to know more fully since your call as an Apostle?' My response came instantly: 'I have learned that I can love even more.'" — @Gerald_Causse | #GeneralConference

"This is the miracle of God's relationship with us: The universe is vast beyond comprehension, yet every soul carries infinite worth in the eyes of our Creator," he said.Elder Caussé then described two different kinds of love that he had felt in his life, and that he believed constituted divine love: "one expansive enough to embrace the whole world, and the other personal enough to notice a single individual with unique needs, circumstances and life story."To the Lord, there are no outcasts, only brothers and sisters. In the same way, followers of Christ should strive to reach out to the world in love.

He embodied the perfect love that a parent has for their child, but for the entire human race. Brother David J. Wunderli — Jesus Christ is not our burden; he is our relief

David J. Wunderli, first counselor in the Young Men general presidency, shared a story about his young son who grew attached to a picture of Jesus he received from Primary. The boy brought the picture with him on a hike in his backpack, along with a collection of rocks. He removed the rocks but would not remove the image of Christ.

He explained that, as burdens increase, people might be tempted to distance themselves from Christ, but that distance just makes life harder. Instead, Christ offers peace, strength and the ability to endure."Taking Jesus Christ out of your life is not the answer. Removing him will not lighten your load," he said.He encouraged young people to invite Christ to walk with them throughout their daily lives by praying, studying the scriptures, repenting and keeping their covenants.

Elder Wan-Liang Wu — I will give away all my sins to know thee

Elder Wan-Liang Wu of the Quorum of the Seventy said he loved going to Chinese temples to worship God as a child because of the delicious cakes he got to eat. But, when he met missionaries after moving to Bolivia, he "felt peace" and knew their message was good. "The gospel of Jesus Christ changed my life for the better. It gave me an eternal purpose — to prepare to return to God's presence with my family," he said. He told conferencegoers that if they have a sincere desire, they can know God and gain eternal life through Jesus Christ.

As we do so, we will have greater happiness, hope, peace, and purpose in this life," Elder Wu said. He encouraged members to have faith, repent continuously and obey the commandments. He said because of Jesus Christ, members can hope for "a future existence with Heavenly Father."

Elder Eduardo F. Ortega — Christ, author and finisher of our faith

Elder Eduardo F. Ortega of the Seventy spoke about legacies and the direction that each individual can choose to take.His family taught him about Jesus Christ and encouraged him to participate in activities within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, he said it was not enough to have the legacy — he needed to know for himself.Elder Ortega explained how he gained his testimony and what that testimony had inspired him to do. It took him time to develop it, but over many years, Elder Ortega said he had seen the Lord's hand and Christ's gospel perfect him and refine him as he trusted in the Savior.Elder Ortega then turned his focus to other members of the church, those who had just joined the church and were just starting on their journey. He explained that no matter where you were on the covenant path, the invitation to come unto Christ was the same. His grandmother had joined the church in difficult circumstances, but she pressed forward and left a beautiful legacy behind for him to build upon.

He quoted the prophet Nephi, echoing the importance of enduring to the end. "Thus saith the father: Ye shall have eternal life" (2 Nephi 31:20)The process will be "the sum of multiple small daily personal and spiritual events," Elder Ortega said. Those small and simple steps would take them along the path towards God and becoming like Christ.— Joe Wirthlin

Elder Gary E. Stevenson — Lost luggage, redeemed souls

"An estimated 33 million bags were mishandled at airports last year," Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared during the opening talk of the Saturday evening session of the 196th Annual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.He shared a personal experience about feeling anxious when his carry-on bag had to be checked during a flight. "I hoped it would not be forgotten, neglected, or lost," he said, later adding that he was reunited with it.He contrasted this with Kansai International Airport in Osaka, Japan, which has not lost a single piece of luggage in 30 years. This success comes from a deep respect for passengers' belongings and a commitment to constant improvement, inspired by the principle of Kaizen.

"In a reverent way, I wonder what it is like for a loving Heavenly Father to send His most precious belongings, His children, away from their heavenly home, knowing they must pass through challenges of mortality. I suppose His comfort is knowing that they do not travel alone." —…

— GeneralConference (@ldsconf) April 4, 2026Elder Stevenson likened this care for luggage to how God sends his beloved children into the world and places them in the care of others."Parents, family, leaders, friends, ministering brothers and sisters, you and me, serve as stewards of his most precious possessions," he said.He shared that members can take care of God's children in two specific ways: completing their ministering assignments and strengthening the rising generation. In both cases, the people ministering are representing Christ by serving, comforting and helping others stay on the covenant path.
