WEST VALLEY CITY — A family was figuring out its next steps on Thursday after a car crashed into their home.

Angelica Rodriguez said she was sleeping upstairs in her house, located west of Mountain View Corridor near 4100 South, when she described hearing something like a bomb going off, or an earthquake.

"Initially, I thought it was an earthquake, so I was not aware of what was going on," Rodriguez said during an interview with KSL. "It wasn't until I went downstairs that I saw the car in our living room that I was like, 'Oh!'"

The impact site was just feet below her bedroom.

She said the car, fortunately, also missed her father and her dog.

"We were just kind of all, I think, overwhelmed with what was going on," Rodriguez said. "It was super overwhelming, scary. I was sad just because it's my home, my childhood home."

West Valley City Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Hall said crews responded at approximately 7 a.m. and found the driver confused but without obvious injuries.

He said the man was transported to the hospital, and the cause of the crash remained under investigation, although he said he suspected it was simply a bad accident that has left the home at least temporarily uninhabitable.

"Unfortunately, it did hit pretty close to a gas line," Hall said. "Also, structurally, we're concerned about the home."

Rodriguez said her family hoped to be back inside the house at some point, repairs and insurance dependent, but for now, they were figuring out another place to stay.

"My room could drop at any moment is my understanding," Rodriguez said.

She said she was grateful it appeared nobody was seriously injured in the collision.

"Anything can happen," Rodriguez said. "Keep your people close. Everything is going to be OK, I hope."
