HOLLADAY — The No. 1 New Year's resolution for Americans in 2026 is better health, exercise and overall fitness, according to the Health & Fitness Association. That's not news to Xcel Fitness in Holladay. The private gym has been helping Utahns reach those goals for over a decade.
They're also well aware of the reasons people tend to give up.
In our Beyond Business series, we talk to owner Nate Brown and some trainers about 10 common exercise myths that keep people from getting fit.
"The '70s and '80s brought us a lot of very poor one-liners," Brown said.
You may have heard the excuses: Exercise is too hard. Gyms don't care about the people. No pain, no gain. Brown and the professional trainers at Xcel are busting those myths, one member at a time.
And if you need a bit of motivation to get started on your fitness journey, they have answers for that, too.
"A lot of people think you have to go 10 out of 10 right out of the gates," said Mike Rosas, director of personal training. "The most important thing that I would say for people to get started is just to walk through the front door. Just get started, you know, just make the commitment."
Watch the video above to learn how the trainers at Xcel Fitness are debunking 10 common workout myths, including the one Brown calls "the king of them all."
