SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Mammoth made history in their Jan. 29 matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes, but not in a good way.
The Mammoth became only the third team in NHL history to blow a two goal lead in the last two minutes, allowing Carolina to steal a 5-4 victory at home. Two nights later, Utah fell again to a Central Division powerhouse in Dallas 3-2 at the Delta Center.
SLC Puck host Austin Facer feels Utah has a chance to regain their confidence, playing the league-worst Vancouver Canucks on Monday. A resounding win could get the frustration out and put the team back on track ahead of the Olympic break.
National pundits are saying the Mammoth will be aggressive buyers down the stretch. That, Facer says, should elevate internal competition inside the locker room. Things are about to get serious down the stretch, Facer says. Roster moves may reflect a relentless push towards a playoff berth.
