HERRIMAN — After losing two of its first three games of the season, Mountain Ridge has been on a tear.

The Sentinels have won six straight games, five of them coming in Region 2 play, including Friday night's 35-6 win over Bingham at home.

Three first-half touchdowns from quarterback Jaxon Hunt proved to be the difference maker as Mountain Ridge picked up a key win ahead of postseason play. Mountain Ridge dominated with big plays throughout the game, with three touchdowns coming on plays of 64 yards or more.

Bingham was playing with their backup quarterback, Kash Dawson, as Boston Singley was battling an injury. The Miners offense struggled, scoring just 6 points after dropping 34 last week against Copper Hills, and had three turnovers in the game.

To open up the scoring, Hunt connected with Tytan DeJong for a 76-yard touchdown pass on a baited curl backdoor fade that let DeJong walk into the end zone without any restraint.

On the ensuing Mountain Ridge possession, the Sentinels moved the ball down the field again and was knocking on the door before Bingham knocked the ball loose, and recovered it on their 1-yard line.

But a short punt on the ensuing drive gave Mountain Ridge a short field, and Hunt capped off the drive with a 2-yard rushing touchdown. Bingham responded with a short field of their own as Cole McKinney scored to trim the lead to a one-possession game.

It took Mountain Ridge just three plays to score again, this time with Hunt connecting with Kohen Cunningham on a similar play to the first touchdown of the game. Cunningham struck again to open the second half, hauling in a 98-yard touchdown pass to seal the Sentinels' sixth consecutive win.

Bingham will have a bye next week before awaiting the final RPI rankings and their spot in the playoffs. Mountain Ridge can clinch the Region 2 title with a win over Westlake and position itself for a strong 6A playoff run next week.
