COALVILLE, Summit County — The body of a 56-year-old missing kayaker was located and pulled from Echo Reservoir early Wednesday after the man was reported missing on Tuesday.

A search and rescue team located the man's body at approximately 1:30 a.m., according to Summit County Sheriff's Sgt. Skyler Talbot. Wednesday evening, Talbot identified the man as Steven Marc Gines, a resident of Salt Lake County.

Rescue teams responded to the reservoir after receiving a call shortly before 5:30 p.m. from the man's adult son, reporting that his father had gone missing, Talbot said. The son said that his father was last in contact with his family about an hour earlier.

Search and rescue teams located the kayak they believed the man was on later that evening. A life jacket that belonged to him was also recovered.

The man's body was recovered and taken to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner for an autopsy, Talbot said.

Wasatch County search and rescue crews, along with Utah Department of Natural Resources law enforcement and North Summit Fire District, assisted in the search and recovery efforts.
