MALAD CITY, Idaho — Two Utah residents died Wednesday night in a rollover crash and a third person sustained critical injuries.
All three were in the same vehicle.
The accident occurred around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday when a motorist in a Ford Focus headed southbound on 100 West in Malad City, Idaho, left the roadway onto the right shoulder and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll. The car hit two unoccupied cars on the opposite side of the road.
A 47-year-old man from Fielding and a 45-year-old woman from Tremonton, both in the Ford, "sustained critical injuries and were transported via ground ambulance to a local hospital where they succumbed to their injuries," Idaho State Police said in a statement Thursday. A juvenile also in the car was wearing a seat belt, "sustained critical injuries and was transported via air ambulance to a local hospital." The statement didn't name the car occupants or provide additional details of the juvenile's condition.
The crash led to the closure of roadways in the area for three hours.
