CALDWELL, Idaho — A man was arrested Monday night after police say he shot and killed his 18-year-old daughter inside a home in Caldwell, Idaho.
Police responded to the 1600 block of Blaine Street about 4 p.m. after a teenager reported finding his father, 51-year-old Delbert Cornish, armed with a gun inside the residence.
Cornish made threats toward a family member and tried to keep his son from leaving, according to the Caldwell Police Department. After a brief struggle, the teen escaped unharmed and called 911.
Officers secured the scene, entered the home and found a firearm along with a deceased 18-year-old woman. Her identity has not been released.
Investigators used Automated License Plate Reader technology to track Cornish to Mountain Home. About 7:30 p.m., he was arrested.
"My heart is heavy, and I am deeply saddened for the family and friends affected by this horrific act of family violence," Caldwell Police Chief Rex Ingram said in a statement. "I am thankful for the outstanding mutual aid and partnerships with our outside agencies who assisted with identifying and capturing this savage without incident."
The Canyon County Sheriff's Office, Elmore County Sheriff's Office, Nampa Police Department K-9 unit and Mountain Home Police Department assisted with the case.
