ST. GEORGE — During a special mass in St. George on Saturday, Raymond and Margaret Ehrig renewed the wedding vows they had made to each other nearly 75 years ago.
Approximately 30 family members attended the ceremony at Saint George Catholic Church, with Father Tristan Dillon officiating.
Shortly before the ceremony started, 95-year-old Marge Ehrig quipped that she was marrying an older man (Ray is 96).
According to Ray and Marge Ehrig's written family history, they were married on Saturday, Sept. 16, 1950, at St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church in Jersey City, New Jersey, with the reception taking place at the nearby Fairmount Hotel.
"My bride was beautiful in her dress and I was so overwhelmed that she was going to be mine for life," Ray Ehrig wrote in the account.
Observed Marge Ehrig: "Greek Catholic was a misnomer, as we were not Greek, of course. Today the word Greek has been changed to Byzantine. The ceremony was in Slovak."
