ST. GEORGE — This Memorial Day story is about a father and his son — both veterans — meeting for the first time.

Ken Engstrom, 90, has Stage 4 mesothelioma (lung cancer) and lives in hospice care in the city of Washington.

His son, Tim Bintz, 70, served a decorated career in the U.S. Navy before retiring to Los Lunas, New Mexico, where he delivers medicine and provides comfort to hospice patients in the Albuquerque area.

Father and son had never looked one another in the eye until Jan. 20, 2024, when they met in a Korean restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona.

Through two American wars and two lifetimes, they had never met.
