BERYL JUNCTION, Iron County — Longtime Escalante Valley Elementary School classroom aide Peggy Hilliard recently retired at 90, after working there for over 30 years.

At a schoolwide assembly in Beryl Junction earlier this month, Escalante Valley principal Allison Drake told the students they were there to celebrate Hilliard's long career, in addition to her 90th birthday on March 4.

"After Christmastime, you may have noticed she didn't come back to work," Drake told the students, explaining, "She got sick and she decided not to come back to work."

"She would get up and go to work every day until she stopped working with us, when she was close to 90 years old, which is pretty spectacular," Drake said. "We want to honor her and recognize her."
